June Hur (born March 14, 1989) is a Korean-Canadian novelist best known for her bestselling young adult historical mysteries set during Korea’s Joseon Dynasty, where she blends detective fiction, political intrigue, and romance with detailed historical research. Born in South Korea and later raised in Canada, Hur developed a fascination with Korean history and literature that became the foundation of her writing career. She made her publishing debut with The Silence of Bones, a mystery set in 1800s Korea that follows a young servant assisting a police inspector with a murder investigation; the novel was widely praised for its atmospheric storytelling and historical authenticity. Hur continued building a strong readership with The Forest of Stolen Girls and The Red Palace, the latter helping earn her the prestigious Edgar Award for Best Young Adult. Her later novels include A Crane Among Wolves and Behind Five Willows, and she currently lives in Toronto with her family while continuing to write historical fiction for young adult readers.
