Napalm Death are an English grindcore band formed in 1981 in Meriden, West Midlands, widely credited with pioneering and defining the grindcore genre through their extreme speed, politically charged lyrics, and uncompromising sound. Emerging from the UK hardcore punk scene, the band gained international attention with their 1987 debut album Scum, which featured the famously brief track “You Suffer,” often cited as one of the shortest songs ever recorded. Over the decades, Napalm Death evolved stylistically, incorporating elements of death metal and industrial textures while maintaining an aggressive, socially aware approach to songwriting. The current lineup includes vocalist Barney Greenway, bassist Shane Embury, guitarist John Cooke, and drummer Danny Herrera. Known for relentless touring and high-intensity live performances, the band has remained active for more than four decades, releasing acclaimed albums such as Harmony Corruption, Utopia Banished, and Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism. Their influence extends across extreme metal, inspiring countless bands while sustaining a reputation for intensity, integrity, and musical ferocity.
