The Mahones are a long-running Canadian Irish punk band formed on St. Patrick’s Day in 1990 in Kingston, Ontario, and widely regarded as pioneers of Celtic punk in North America. Founded by Dublin-born frontman Finny McConnell, the band fused traditional Irish instrumentation—tin whistle, accordion, mandolin, and fiddle—with the speed, attitude, and grit of punk rock, helping shape a genre that would later gain global traction. Over more than three decades, The Mahones have released an extensive catalog including Draggin’ the Days (1994), Rise Again (1996), Here Comes Lucky (2001), Take No Prisoners (2006), Angels & Devils (2012), The Hunger & The Fight (2014), and Jameson Street (2022). Known for anthemic tracks like “Paint the Town Red,” “A Great Night on the Lash,” and “Punk Rock Saved My Life,” they’ve built a reputation as a relentless touring act across Europe and North America. Their music has also appeared in film and television, further cementing their status as one of Canada’s most enduring and internationally recognized Celtic punk bands.
